Silverstone prepares for World Superbikes

It's not long now until the British round of the ENI FIM Superbike World Championship at Silverstone on 3rd to 5th August, and with an action-packed schedule and electric atmosphere guaranteed, the Brit riders can expect plenty of support.

Motorcycle News: preparations are underway for the Silverstone World SBK round
With Jonathan Rea currently third in the championship, Tom Sykes and Leon Haslam fifth and sixth respectively, expectations are high for seeing one of our boys on the podium.

Silverstone is well known for plenty of high-speed overtaking opportunities around the 3.6 mile circuit, providing the perfect venue for a bit of summer (fingers crossed) bike racing entertainment and an ideal opportunity for fans to get up close and personal with their favourite superbike stars.

The usual array of support races will of course be featured including the World Supersport Championship, Superstock 1000 and Superstock 600 races and the European Junior Cup. What's more, Silverstone’s kids go free policy (for children aged 15 and under) will soften the blow on your wallet and provide a great day out for the whole family.

Motorcycle News: The impressive Wingpit is now an established feature at Silverstone
With stunt shows, air displays, interactive on and off-road riding zones, funfair rides and trade stands, this race meeting looks set to be a thoroughly enjoyable experience, providing something for everyone to enjoy.

Advance tickets start from just £15, find out more at www.silverstone.co.uk

Make sure you don't miss our race report from Silverstone on 5th August.

Tail, indicator and brake lights on your helmet?

With the issue of motorcycle safety and rider visibility ever increasing in prominence, one entrepreneur has come up with a stylish new helmet lighting system that could help to save motorcyclists lives.

Motorcycle News: New BikeLink motorcycle helmet lighting system

The new product concept, know as BikeLink, is designed to provide customised lighting options to increase rider visibility and act as a fully functional additional tail, brake, indicator and hazard light.

The sleek and stylish LED solution mounts on to any full-face helmet via a weatherproof self-adhesive rubber strip. The unit itself is of course fully waterproof and syncs to your motorcycle's lighting system via a transmitter that connects to your wiring loom.

Motorcycle News: The system can be controlled by a smart phone app

The lighting system is completely wireless and has a built-in rechargeable battery which is said to have a life of around 8 hours. The system will be available with a sync lead that allows the user to change settings on their smart phone (e.g. colour and brightness of the LEDs).

The system is currently in prototype stage and the creators are looking to fund the first production run by taking pre-orders for the system. Anyone from individual customers to dealers can place their pre-orders on the website http://www.fundable.com/bike-link

We think this is a great safety initiative and we could see this being particularly popular with builders of custom motorcycles, to find out more or support this new business venture check out http://www.fundable.com/bike-link

New Suzuki Inazuma 250 delivers 85mpg for £3.5k

Japanese manufacturer Suzuki has just confirmed that their eagerly anticipated Inazuma 250 model will do over 85mpg and will have an on-the-road price of under £3,500, making it an absolute bargain for the day-to-day commuter.

Motorcycle News: New Suzuki Inazuma 250 will retail for £3,499
The Inazuma is due to arrive on UK shores in September and will feature the standard Suzuki two year warranty and one year roadside assistance in the package price.

The bike was launched at Motorcycle Live last year, and is aimed to provide an attractive and economical alternative to the car. It's 250cc motor and B-king inspired looks, available in red or black colour schemes, will mean that riders wont be lacking in the power or style departments either.

"With this newly announced price, 250cc power and superb fuel economy it’s a very real alternative for the commuter." Commented Suzuki GB's Paul de Lusignan

Keep your eyes peeled for more news on the Inazuma 250 and make sure you get in early for a test ride in September.
