Five celebrities have been putting in the overtime behind the scenes over the last few months learning to ride motorcycles and training to ride off-road in adverse conditions. This week their training is being put to the test as they embark on their ultimate mission – a five day ride to deliver vital health supplies to clinics in the remotest communities in Africa.
The team of celebs consisting of Gethin Jones, Darren Gough, Shobna Gulati, Jill Halfpenny and Oliver Mellor are working with bike-based charity ‘Riders for Health’ to get an intimate experience of the incredible work they do to help over 10 million people a year.
The group met up with health workers on Monday in Lesotho, a place with severe HIV problems, where 1 in every 3 children is born with the virus. Since then the team have been navigating the challenging road network on a quest to hand over essential medicines to clinics in Roma and Semonkong.
“Not many people realise just what good motorbikes can do for communities,” says Darren Gough. “Riders for Health are the perfect example of just what amazing things can be achieved by bikes – they help over 10 million people every year and bikes are at the heart of everything they do.”
The trip continues until the 10th April and you can help to do you bit by spreading the work and making a donation to help ‘Riders for Health’ to continue their critical work. Visit www.geton.co.uk/africa to find out how.
